Undergraduate Dissertation 2019

Gender and structural biases faced by females in agriculture in Ireland

This dissertation highlights the gender inequality within the agricultural sector. The gender imbalances of agriculture and veterinary is investigated. Only 13 percent of Irish farms are owned by females. Whereas, the male to female ratio in veterinarians are becoming more equal. The roots of gender and the structural biases faced by females in agriculture in Ireland is investigated throughout the text. The text questions why the family farm is inherited by the son and not the daughter. Only 11 percent of Irish farms are inherited by the daughter. Most women are left to marry for land. Male-dominated environments were examined to show that when females enter into a male dominated professions. Strategies the government bodies have developed to improve the number of female involved in Ireland are investigated. The Central Statistics Office is referred to highlight the gender imbalance.

An examination into inclusion, student autonomy and constructive feedback being core principles of good practice in assessment in art-based education

Assessment plays a key role in education by informing the teaching and learning that takes place. Ireland's view on the curriculum reform and assessment change is unpacked. Different assessment methods are investigated throughout the text. The key points covered are Assessment for Learning, Curriculum and Assessment reform in Ireland, Formative assessment, Inclusive Art Education, Student Autonomy and Constructive Feedback are discussed throughout. 

Reflective Assignment, 2021

The art you practice and the art you teach

Throughout this reflection, I discuss my dual identity of artist and teacher. How my art practice informs my teaching is unpacked, with references bodies of work I created and how they influenced the Units of Learning I thought. The key points covered is the childhood artist, undergraduate education, issues with education in the art world, swapping the gallery for the classroom, the artist teacher identity and my teaching philosophy.

Postgraduate Dissertation, 2021

Understanding Development Education in the context of Arts-based Research and the extent to which this may inform a curriculum intervention and approaches to teaching in your role as teacher/ artist/ researcher

The Change Lab as an explorative research site where Professional Master of Education students investigate Development Education is unpacked throughout this dissertation. The United Nations Sustainable Development goals 5 gender equality and goal 15 were investigated through a series of ecofeminist interventions. How we merged our artist, researcher and educator identities together and to question how we can help create a more equal and sustainable world is examined throughout the text. A number of theoretical frameworks that the Change Lab is situated are investigated. The three theoretical frameworks are Communities of practice, narrative inquiry and arts-based research.
