Students work
Theme: The Big Shop

Aim:
Level 5 lockdown has left us imprisoned in our homes once again. The daily trips to the shop have been replaced with the Big Shop. The Big Shop is essential reason to leave the house, to escape from our reality. Let’s observe and record the items from The Big Shop in a still life. Working only with the materials found in their art packs.

Positives:
  • The work was marked every evening, the students received written feedback instantly.
  • Students had access to primary sources.
  • The shy students opened up more.
  • 24/7 access to teaching materials.
  • Video demonstrations used in class and the students had access to them so they could play the video on a loop while working.

Challenges:
  • Students do not have access to internet, computers or materials.
  • When at home, students are working in a more self directed manner.
  • Unable to physically see the students work and assist them.
  • Attendance was low at times.

Online Workshop

Dublin Learning City Festival

What is the Dublin Learning City Festival?

Dublin joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2019. The Dublin City Council collaborated with other organisations and colleges to deliver a range of educational workshops delivered online. The event lasted 3 days with the goal of promoting learning for all.

Sense of Place, drawing workshop for all ages:
On March 22nd, I held an experimental drawing workshop with NCAD's School of Education. The theme wass ‘Sense of Place’. Participators were asked to find and gather objects to draw that held important value to them. They learned about different drawing techniques while using materials they had at home like pens, pencils and different types of paper.

Video demonstrations, presentations, live discussions and peer evaluations were used to make the Zoom Workshop engaging.
